Styx: Shards of Darkness is the 2nd entry into the Styx series and it is like Thief if Garrett were a Goblin. Also if Garrett had no problem killing dozens of humans, elves, and other fantasy races on principle he wanted something. Think of Styx as a cross between Garrett, Agent 47, and a Goblin. His job is to run around stealing magical treasures and artifacts from the much taller races of his fantasy world. In this case we return to Styx to see him infiltrating an Elven city; where we assume Goblins are not at all welcome. Furthermore, the trailers have already revealed new weapons, abilities, and stealth elements while at the same time giving us favorites from the previous entry. This is much like the original Styx if the original game had a budget, a PR department, and enough time to make a good game.

Sorry have to Murder you Now….before you scream.

Styx: Shards of Darkness, being published this time by Focus Home Interactive, has a chance to really give us something in a stealth game we haven’t had before: Fantasy. What do I mean by this? Well we have Hitman for Modern times, Assassin’s Creed for everything Pre-World War 1. Even Shadow of Mordor didn’t quite give us stealth so much as, Kill Everything. Styx: Shards of Darkness promises to stick by it’s “Getting Spotted and Fighting in the Open is a Bad Idea” concept. You are after all a Goblin, in an Elven city where Goblins are KILL ON SITE! Therefore you will be working around with Styx to avoid detection or sometimes gain it in order to get the upper hand. That’s right I said gain detection, the environment promises to play a role as well with sheer cliffs, chandeliers, and airships being things you can use to decimate massed opponents.

Original Gameplay Walkthrough:

Unlike other “Stealth” games where sometimes random murder is not a good thing, in Styx: Shards of Darkness as well as Master of Shadows it is encouraged. Elimination of guards and removal of bodies, sometimes via acid trap, is a priority as being seen is likely to result in your demise. Elves are everything from Master Swordsmen to Archmagi to Assassins specialized in counter assassination afterall. Check out Styx: Shards of Darkness on Xbox, PS4, and PC coming in March.
